AeroLite uses Turcite® for the bearing surfaces of its pedals. Turcite is used wherever a clean, maintenance-free, long-wearing bearing surface is required. It requires no lubrication and works well when wet. Turcite parts have been used in the NASA Space Shuttle, theme park rides, and ski-lift gondolas, since it has excellent cold temperature properties. AeroLite realized early on how well its properties met the requirements for a cycling pedal.
GENERAL PROPERTIES
Turcite ® is a self-lubricating thermoplastic bearing material manufactured by American Variseal Bearings Group. These materials are cost effective, chemically resistant, wear resistant, and are well suited to a wide range of temperatures. Turcite ® X is an acetal-based material and its properties and applications can be compared to those of more well-known Delrin AF ®. Turcite ® materials are available in rod form only.
